Wherever You Go, God is There
Psalm 139:7-10 | November 8 – 14, 2023
Where shall I go from your Spirit?
Or where shall I flee from your presence?
If I ascend to heaven, you are there!
If I make my bed in Sheol, you are there!
If I take the wings of the morning
and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea,
even there your hand shall lead me,
and your right hand shall hold me.
~ Psalm 139:7-10
King David, the writer of Psalm 139, was a man subject to great joy and great pain. He conquered giants but also fell victim to depression. He led the nation of Israel to victory in war but lost the battle of conscience through adultery. He lived in a palace but was also forced to hide in a cave. But wherever King David found himself, he also found God.
The same is true for each of us. Wherever we find ourselves, we also find God. Sometimes we wonder if God is still present in our lives, especially during our struggles. But we are told in Deuteronomy 31:8, “It is the Lord who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.”
Just as God never deserted King David, He never deserts us.
Whether ascending in joy or descending in torment, God is with you. When you are weak, His right hand holds you. When you’ve lost your way, His hand leads you. And when God makes you wait, He waits there with you, renewing your strength until you mount up with wings like eagles.
Heavenly Father, we are so grateful that wherever we go, you are there with us, that when we are weak, you are strong, and that when we sing of your love, it’s with joy in our hearts.
~ AMEN
