Steadfast and Immovable

1 Corinthians 15:50-58 | August 1 – 7, 2023

But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the

Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.
— 1 Corinthians 15:57-58

If you entered a marathon knowing the victory was already yours, that when you reached the finish line your Beloved King would be waiting with open arms to catch you, to whisper in your ear as your tired head fell upon His shoulder, “Well done, good and faithful servant. Enter into the joy of the Lord,” wouldn’t you run earnestly, staying the course, resolute in your pursuit of that glorious prize?

Jesus secured our victory over sin and death through His crucifixion and resurrection. In Him we are victorious, gifted with eternal life in heaven! But there is still a race to run before then, still work to do in His name.

When we entrust ourselves to Jesus, He entrusts His work to us.

When we come to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, He begins working in and through us. For it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure. ~ Philippians 2:13

Understanding that it is God working in and through us when we work for the Lord helps us avoid the trap of thinking our work for Him is in vain. Knowing that our victory is secure helps us run the race with resolve, our eyes on the divine prize to come.

Father,
Thank you that, through your Son, we are forever victors.
Let us be steadfast and immovable as we endeavor to do the work you’ve entrusted to us.
And may it all be for Your good pleasure, not our own.

~ AMEN
